The Walker's Haute Route is a trek of contrasts: a world of glaciers and towering, snow-capped peaks, which also meanders through lush green valleys, alpine meadows and enchanting picture-book villages. You walk through the centre of both the French and Swiss Alps, two distinct cultural regions with different languages, customs, food and architecture.
Regularly voted one of the top 10 treks in the world and approximately 112 miles (180km) in length, the Walker's haute Route is in fact a network of hiking trails through France and Switzerland, traversing the Pennine Alps and crossing 11 spectacular high mountain passes and glacial valleys, with 12,000m (39400ft) of ascent and descent – an exciting challenge for any mountain lover!
Choose from a selection of guided and self-guided treks that offer the best of the Walker's Haute Route. The full route from Chamonix to Zermatt incorporates 11 days walking through the most stunning - and dramatically different environments each day. We also offer the 'Best of' 8-day trek which focuses on the trek highlights in the French and Swiss Alps. Or you can choose to walk the route in sections, either Westerly from Chamonix to Zinal or Easterly from Arolla to Zermatt.
Due to its elevation the season starts late, but you can walk well into September. Take a look at our guided and self guided Walkers Haute Route itineraries that are perfect for solo travellers and group holidays alike. Or contact our team in Chamonix to plan your personalised walking holiday, with changes to the route or additional rest days if needed.
